Within the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge on the Kenai Peninsula, Skilak Lake is 15 miles long and up to 4 miles wide. Part of the Kenai River system, the waters of Skilak Lake are colored by glacial runoff. Several small islands near the inlet have become home to hundreds of seagulls. The wilderness is filled with the sound of their shrill cries. |
