Tracy Arm Fjord is nearly 25 miles long, but barely a mile wide. It is surrounded by cliffs towering more than 2,500 feet above the water, with waterfalls tumbling into the depths below. In places, the water is more than 1,000 feet deep. Calved from the two Sawyer Glaciers that are retreating at the head of the fjord, icebergs and bergy bits (smaller chunks of ice that rise 3-13 feet above the water) travel the length of the fjord to the open sea in Stephens Passage. |
